Lakewood for Sale

19 Feb

1961 Lakewood Wagon for sale to good home.  Needs the TLC and the driving that, at this time, I cannot give.  Rather than leaving this Corvair gem to slowly deteriorate to the earth from which it came I do not want the moniker….”ran when parked.”

What really IS that color?

This is a fully operable car with a Bob Galli re-built 102 hp engine, re-built 3:27 differential and a re-built (10 years ago) power glide transmission.  The car has all systems that run; lights, turn signals, wipers, horn, heater and defroster. It has all the proper chrome trimmings in all the right places. There are new wiring harnesses throughout, new master cylinder, alternator conversion, new installed weatherstripping, deep Clark’s transmission pan, re-built 1966 carbs, new suspension bushings and rubber.  It runs, starts up right away and is a dependable driver.  It needs paint as the patina is wearing thin although I love the color it has become.  It has a lot of character.  In addition, it needs carpet, floor pans ( I have the four panels that are not installed) as the floors are rusty and need to be replaced. It needs upholstery as the drivers bench is torn, and all door panels and kick panels.  The headliner is intact and in good shape. I have spent a good deal of time and effort on keeping this car running over the 12 years I have had it. I love to drive it when I do yet do not spend the time necessary to keep it in tip top running condition.

Isn't she sweet?

I believe that old cars need to be driven often to keep them running well.  I do not want to see this enjoyable and “head turning” car not being enjoyed to its full potential.  Pick this gem up for $3,000 now.  You know where to find me.

Mike’s Wild Ride

8 Jul
The following is an email I received from Mike regarding his recent treasure trove of Everything Corvair!

All,
After hearing Jim Corey's notice about the guy in Templeton that had Corvairs and parts for sale,
Bill Marks and I went to investigate.  I was interested in a couple of things he had, but he made
it clear that it was all or nothing.  After thinking about it for a couple of days I decided to take
the deal.  Over the last three weeks I've moved literally tons of parts and, so far three cars.
Four more to go.  Most of the parts are "cores", in other solid and complete but should be rebuilt
before use.  The great majority of the parts are for early models, with a small amount of F.C.
Most of the engine parts are from 102 HP engines.  The breakdown includes (approximately):
20 Heads
40 Cylinders, pistons and rods
30 Carbs
6 Starters
6 Generators
3 Alternators
10 Crankshafts
7 4 speed transmissions
1 Automatic transmission
4 rears
6 axles
4 complete engines
4 disassembled engines (including one Sept. or Oct. 59)
15 top covers
20 oil filter / generator castings
15 rear cover castings
5 dash / instrument clusters
1 gas heater
15 blowers
10 oil coolers
6 flywheels and pressure plates hundreds of shrouds and sheet metal parts dozens of boxes of misc.
stuff like shifters, pedals, wire harnesses etc.
The cars and their status are:
1.  1961 700 Lakewood  (ownership unclear)
2.  1960 Monza Coupe    (not in DMV records)
3.  1964 Monza Coupe    (transferred to me)
4.  1963 Monza Coupe    (transferred to me)
5.  1963 Monza Coupe    (expired registration about $1,000 in back fees due)
6.  1963 700 Coupe      (not in DMV records)
7.  1961 700 Sedan      (not in DMV records)
I am planning on keeping #1 and #3 for now.  Before I list the rest on eBay or Craigs list
(or remove valuable parts and junk the rest) I will offer them to club members as follows:
 2. 200.00 has bill of sale only, no title registration would only require verification of
VIN and current year's fees.
4. 750.00 (including "over 1,000.00 worth" of new parts from Lon Wall and Clark's he purchased to
restore it, or 200.00 without) includes its original and valid black license plates DMV current non op.
5. 100.00 (due to delinquent DMV fees I'd consider this to be for parts only) has bill of sale only,
no title
6. 200.00 (or 100.00 without its black plates) has bill of sale only, no title registration would
only require verification of VIN and current year's fees.
7. 100.00 has bill of sale only, no title registration would only require verification of VIN
and current year's fees.
All of these cars are mostly rust free and complete, but have been sitting for 10 to 20 years.
All will need paint, interiors, in other words complete restorations to be usable.  If anyone needs
any of the other parts let me know, most will be sold for scrap metal value or free.

I'm going to be out of town from Friday night 'till July 17th, so if there's any interest in
any of this call or email me and I'll respond before I leave or upon my return.
